Organize Your Site Content Around Themes and Rank Better

There are basic best practices to getting your site better visibility online.  Identify your keywords and then use them throughout the site. Make sure you use keywords in your title and meta tags, in the body copy, heading on the page, alt attributes and text links. Make sure you have quality inbound links, and that you link to other authority level sites. But we’re still talking basics here. These are the things that will get you started, but ultimately, you must create good content, and the way you build that content into your site can help or hurt your efforts to rank well in the search engines.

We talk a lot about silos. Yes, we’re headquartered in the mid-west but we’re not talking about farming here. We’re talking about content silos, or themes. If you have a site with a general focus but multiple themes within that focus, it’s very important that you consider some important factors when structuring your site content.

Dr. Ralph F. Wilson, Founder and Editor of Web Marketing Today has posted a highly informative article called “How to Optimize Content Themes on a Large Site using Content Silos”. You’ll find everything you need to know about silos and theming your site right there in the article and the links at the end which include interviews with Bruce Clay and articles on the Bruce Clay Inc. website.

Learning how to organize your content around themes or silos will create a better user experience and a clearer picture of what you’re about to the search engines.
